Spiral Stairs
| Welcome |
Spiral stairs wind around a central pole. They typically have a handrail on the outer side only. Spiral stairs were originally designed in a clockwise ascent in order to fend off righthanded attacking swordsmen but have undergone many changes over the 2500 years since their introduction. Today spiral stairs are used as a space efficient way to achieve the next higher floor and if you are not worried about right handed swordsmen they are also available in reverse-clockwise ascent direction. A 5' diameter spiral is the smallest that will meet California Stair Code. We design and build custom spiral stairs as well as work with a company that specializes in spiral stairs to bring you a very nice product at an affordable price. Please call for questions. Although spirals can be space savers, they have specific space and design requirements.
